For decades, the IBM z/Architecture mainframe has been the rock-solid backbone of global enterprise computing, executing trillions of high-value transactions with unmatched security and uptime. z/Architecture is the core of the mainframe, evolving over time. This session will introduce main concepts and aspects of z/Architecture, explaining what happens within machine clock cycle and how CISC implementation is different from RISC and other computer architectures. This session is intended for younger generation of mainframers, who would like to understand how it actually works and what contributes to its legendary high performance.
