(ND)

Stream: Copse
Time: 15:30 - 16:15

Presentation

zopen Community is an open-source initiative dedicated to bringing modern development tools and libraries to z/OS. By porting, maintaining, and evolving widely used open-source software, the community enables organizations to adopt modern development, automation, security, and DevOps practices while leveraging the strengths of the z/OS platform. This session introduces the zopen Community, its mission, and the growing ecosystem of open-source tools available for z/OS. We'll explore how the community enables developers through collaborative innovation, simplifies software deployment with modern packaging approaches, strengthens security by using trusted open-source software, and continuously expands the ecosystem with new tools and libraries. We'll also highlight the latest innovations, including RPM enhancements, new security capabilities with tools such as Grype, z/OS-specific enhancements to popular tools like Git, Vim, and Curl, and an overview of the latest tools and libraries that have recently been ported to the platform. Whether you're new to zopen Community or already using its tools, this session will provide a practical overview of how open-source software can improve developer productivity, strengthen software supply chain security, simplify modernization efforts, and help organizations build and operate modern applications on z/OS.
