HTTP/3 and the Mainframe - What is it and why does it matter?

(LE)

Stream: Stowe
Time: 10:00 - 10:45

Presentation

Web transport is undergoing its most radical transformation in decades. As HTTP/3 and its underlying protocol, QUIC, gain mass adoption, the traditional reliance on TCP is being challenged. This session covers the evolution of HTTP, from the sequential nature of 1.1 to the multiplexing of HTTP/2 and explains why the industry is moving toward the UDP-based QUIC. We will explore how QUIC addresses existing limitations to provide superior performance and connection reliability. Crucially for the z/OS community, we’ll discuss the security implications, including the intersection with Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the operational impact of QUIC, specifically the challenges of monitoring UDP-based traffic.
