Join this session as we explore how running workloads in z/OS containers, paired with AI-driven workflows, brings newfound speed, consistency, and agility to mainframe application development. Using the open-source Bank of Z project as a live example, we will share practical insights from adopting z/OS Container Platform (zOSCP) to streamline build, deployment, and runtime environments. We will examine how we containerised key tools like IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB) and Wazi Deploy, as well as live runtimes like z/OS Connect. We will also demonstrate how AI accelerates development by driving iterative edit-build-fix cycles directly against the containerised build toolchain. Our discussion provides an honest review of the motivations, architectural patterns, and real-world challenges faced—such as file tagging, USS configuration, and establishing AI guardrails. Whether you are modernising existing mainframe pipelines or evaluating z/OS containers, you will gain actionable patterns and lessons learned to apply to your own organisation.
