AT-TLS - What it is and how to configure, diagnose, debug and understand all of PAGENTS moving parts

Presentation

Application Transparent Transport Layer Security (AT-TLS) allows z/OS applications to not have to worry about doing native SSL inbound and outbound, but instead to have comms server's PAGENT task do the encryption and decryption instead. This talk will cover AT-TLS and show how to configure policies as well as (the main focus) how to debug and diagnose when things don't work. We'll look at the various ways to trace and diagnose some common errors as well as walk through real world examples using different authentication methods, different certificate types, and looking at z/OSMF, 3270 over TLS, Zowe, and other application runtimes

My current project is Zowe, which is part of the Linux Foundation and Open Mainframe Project where I am part of the leadership committee and an ambassador. Prior to Zowe I worked on Eclipse tooling and before that Java 2 Standard Edition. I enjoy astronomy, running, biking, piano, and in my spare time helping bring open source tooling to the mainframe computing platform for a new generation of Z heads.
