CBT Tape, a treasure trove of powerups no mainframer should be without

(NL)

Stream: Copse
Time: 16:30 - 17:15

Presentation

Since the 1970s the CBT tape has been the place where mainframe sysprogs have collaborated to share apps, code, and powerups to the z/OS environment and is now a top level Open Mainframe Project. This session will show how to get started with CBT tape, explore its library, install some of it's amazing utilities, and use them for productivity powerups. It'll also show how to get involved with the community for folks who want to improve what's there and contribute back, or else provide their own in-house goodies for the benefit of the wide mainframe community.

Speakers

  • Joe Winchester at IBM
  • I work on open source projects around software tooling platforms. My current project is Zowe, which is part of the Linux Foundation and Open Mainframe Project where I am part of the leadership committee and an ambassador. Prior to Zowe I worked on Eclipse tooling and before that Java 2 Standard Edition. I enjoy astronomy, running, biking, piano, and in my spare time helping bring open source tooling to the mainframe computing platform for a new generation of Z heads.

  • Henri Kuiper at zDevOps
  • Henri Kuiper is a pre Y2K Mainframe junkie. Started taking apart computers at a very young age (BBC Micro's Anyone?) and never stopped his love for 'taking things apart' (and mostly putting them back together too). He's Technical Coordinator for the Dutch region of Guide Share Europe, IBM Champion for z Systems, owner of zDevOps.com pro-deo teacher at 'codeuur.nl' (teaching primary school kids how to program) and loves all things IT :)
