IODF and HCD: An Introduction for Sysprogs

(BQ)

Stream: Monza
Time: 14:15 - 15:00

Presentation

“IODF and HCD: An Introduction for Sysprogs” provides a foundational overview of how IBM Z systems understand and manage their hardware and I/O configuration. The session introduces the role of the Input/Output Definition File (IODF) and Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD), explaining what they are, why they exist, and how sysprogs use them to safely define processors, channels, control units, and devices. Aimed at those new to the sysprog role, this presentation focuses on concepts rather than deep mechanics, helping build confidence in how hardware configuration fits into day‑to‑day system management and change activity, and setting the groundwork for more advanced topics later on.
