Application data—and the schemas that define it—sit at the core of every enterprise system. They power your applications, your business processes, and ultimately your organization’s ability to operate and innovate. Yet despite this central role, data pipeline automation and schema management are often left behind while the rest of the software delivery lifecycle becomes increasingly automated. For many teams, schema changes still rely on manual DBA workflows, hand-written SQL updates, and error‑prone review cycles. These slow, disconnected processes create bottlenecks for both DBAs and developers, especially in mainframe and large-scale enterprise environments where reliability is non‑negotiable. It doesn’t have to stay this way. In this live, hands-on session, we’ll show you how to treat data as a first‑class citizen in your delivery pipeline. You’ll learn how to automate schema changes, integrate data workflows into CI/CD, and eliminate the manual steps that introduce risk and slow down delivery. You will learn: • What should—and should not—be automated in a data pipeline • Techniques and patterns for automating schema changes and data workflows • What a fully automated data pipeline looks like in practice • How automation benefits both DBAs and application developers, reducing friction and improving reliability • Real-world examples of automated data pipelines in enterprise and mainframe environments This session is designed for DBAs, mainframe developers, and anyone responsible for delivering data‑driven applications who wants to increase maturity, reduce manual effort, and modernize their delivery practices

I’ve spent my career helping people build and run the systems their businesses depend on, whether that’s tuning Db2, modernising IBM Z workloads, or mentoring engineers who want to grow. I’m recognised as a 5× IBM Champion and OMP Ambassador, but what motivates me most is making complex technology easier to understand and simpler to work with. I love sharing what I’ve learned through speaking, writing, and community work so others can develop their craft and feel proud of the systems they create.
