This double session (2x45 mins) will provide a tutorial on the key performance metrics and associated key performance indicators for Db2 Data Sharing specific to global locking and group buffer pools (GBP) protocol. This session will cover the following topics: Db2 data sharing technical architecture; the Coupling Facility LOCK1 structure used by Db2; global lock contention; resizing the LOCK1 structure; Coupling Facility Group Buffer Pool cache structures used by Db2; GBP reads, GBP writes; GBP castout and GBP tuning.

John Campbell is an IBM Alumni, a retired IBM Distinguished Engineer, and now works as a Distinguished Technical Consultant for Broadcom Inc. He has worked with Db2 for z/OS for over 40 years and has extensive experience with Db2 in terms of systems, database and application design. He specialises in design for high performance, continuous availability, restart/recovery and data sharing. He is one of foremost authorities in the industry for implementing high end transaction processing database applications. He is an IDUG Hall of Fame Speaker having been voted best speaker at several IDUG conferences. John was recognised in 2022 by IDUG for his leadership, loyalty and distinguished service to the global DB2 community.
