Bob Rogers says he wasn’t particularly tech savvy. Yet mainframing leapt forward when Bob led IBM mainframes into the world of 64 bit computing. Bob attributes his success to being a bit different in how he approaches life and work. But what was key in Bob’s mindset? What was the difference that made the difference? And what can today’s mainframers take from that? This session is not a presentation: it’s an interview. Resli Costabell will interview Bob Rogers, to tease out what approaches he used (and still uses) and what we can all learn from him. You’ll also have a chance to ask Bob questions.

Resli Costabell is an award-winning international speaker, trainer, and coach. She works with people who want to use psychology to get better results or have more joie de vivre. Resli taught presentation skills to Disney and ran creativity work for Madame Tussauds. She’s worked with people from a senior member of government to category B prison inmates. Resli has qualifications that are impressive but not cool. She has one qualification that is cool but not impressive: she’s a qualified clinical hypnotherapist.
Bob Rogers worked on mainframe systems software for 43 years at IBM before retiring as a Distinguished Engineer in 2012. Bob’s main claims to fame are as the lead software designer for the transition to the 64-bit z/Architecture and the introduction zAAP and zIIP processors. He currently works for Trident Service, Inc. If you’re new to mainframing, all you need to know is that Bob is A Big Deal. Bob is known for being honest, entertaining, and a bit of an iconoclast. Bob only wrote the first three sentences of this bio. Resli Costabell added the rest without Bob’s knowledge.
