Preparing your organization's cryptographic infrastructure for the quantum era requires a long-term migration strategy. Key steps in this process include maintaining up-to-date, securely signed certificates to validate user authenticity and establish trust between clients and servers. Additionally, keeping an accurate inventory of the ciphersuites used for data encryption allows organizations to identify quantum-vulnerable connections and replace them with quantum-resistant alternatives. While configuration tools like your External Security Manager(ESM) and Application Transparent Transport Layer Security (AT-TLS) policies define which certificates and ciphers are permitted, network observability bridges the gap by revealing what is actively in use. By leveraging capabilities like z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology(zERT), administrators can gain visibility into the actual cryptographic protection applied to network traffic traveling to and from the mainframe.
