CICS security can seem complex when you’re first introduced to the world of IBM Z, with concepts such as RACF, user IDs, transactions, resources, authentication and authorisation all playing a role. This session provides a practical introduction to the fundamentals of CICS security, explaining the key concepts and how they work together to protect CICS applications and resources. We’ll explore how users are identified, how access decisions are made, and how CICS works with external security managers such as RACF to control what users can and cannot do. Designed for those new to CICS security, this session will help build a strong foundation and provide the knowledge needed to understand, support, and further explore security in a CICS environment. No prior CICS security experience is required.

Lewis is a software engineer embedded with the CICS Transaction Server for z/OS development team. Now within his 7th year at IBM, he joined as a Degree Apprentice, an early professional in the mainframe industry. Currently on secondment from the security team to work on IBMs mainframe AI mission.
